The Story of After

In July 1976, in Montreal, Canada, American athlete Bruce Jenner won the most coveted gold medal at the Olympic Games: the decathlon. He was my idol and the idol of millions of others. He was the image of a powerful, invincible man, an extraordinary athlete with unique charisma and a presence that inspired envy and admiration in everyone.

Then came the shock. During an interview broadcast on ABC in April 2015, he revealed to Dyane Sawyer what he had kept secret all his life: his desire to be a woman, at the age of sixty-five

This event marked a turning point in the history of transgender representation. It was during the annual sports excellence awards ceremony that Caitlyn Jenner made her first appearance on television as a woman. She was honored at this event with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.

Faced with this reality, like millions of people who witnessed this surreal moment, I could not conceive or understand the courage of a globally idolized athlete, with a wife and ten children, to make the decision to change sex, especially at such an advanced age!

This story inspired me to write a trilogy entitled ‹AFTER›, a work of fiction based on real events in the world of transgender people. It’s a unique, improbable, even impossible love story full of unexpected twists and turns.
